Real Dances for Real People.
Planning a wedding can be stressful. For most couples, their wedding day celebration will be the largest organized event that they’ve ever planned. Think about it. Anywhere from 30 to 200 people gather together at one location for several hours of food, entertainment, and socializing. If you’re palms are getting sweaty and you find yourself reminiscing about the days of Zoom weddings, or longing to elope, then just remember that you are not alone. Seriously, you have have a partner– a life partner, and together you’ll build castles and embark on new adventures. Why would the thought of spending the day with someone you love surrounded by people that love you, stress you out? Most people imagine their perfect wedding day including people that they love. So if that’s your dream, then don’t elope as a way to escape “the stress” of wedding planning. While there likelihood of another birthday party is high, a wedding is generally a one time affair. When we put aside that expectation of “perfect,” then things become a lot less stressful.
As a wedding dance choreographer I work with real couples. Couples who are open to hearing each others ideas. Couples who cheer each other on when a dance move doesn’t go right. Sure I get brides who insist they learn a choreographed routine where the groom is expected to learn a ton of moves while the bride relives her dance competition days. I usually show these couples the door. Why? Well, the expectations aren’t realistic, it creates a lot of stress for the groom, and without some major changes that marriage may not last. There’s a big difference between, “I want my partner to help me bring my dreams to life,” and “I want my partner to be something that they are not.” With the right partner, you’re both sharing your ideas and working together to turn those dreams into a beautiful picture. You’re ready to laugh together and cry together as things go right and things go wrong.
That’s life.
That’s love.
And that’s dancing.
